PROFILE

Masaru ISHIKAWA - Representative visual designer.
Associate Professor, Department of Communication Design, Akita University of Art, since April 2021.

Born in 1974 in Osaka. Graduated from the Tokyo University of the Arts Graduate School in 2000. Received the Award for Excellence for his graduate and final works. In 1999, won a prize in the 13th “Hitotsubo Exhibition” sponsored by Guardian Garden (Recruit Holdings). In 2001, went to Germany as a scholarship student sponsored by the Ezoe Ikueikai to study art and design at the Hannover University of Applied Sciences and Arts. From 2003, worked in an architecture and design office in Milan, Italy. In 2008, exhibited “tableware that forms a castle”, which integrated Japanese and Western European food cultures, at the international furniture fair “Milano Salone Satellite”. Became the president of the design office mi e ru from 2008. Is a part-time lecturer at the Asagaya College of Art and Design. Is the designer for Seibu Shinkin Bank.

Megumi WATANABE – Graphic designer, Art director
Born in 1979 in Hiroshima. After studying for two years at the Hannover University of Applied Sciences and Arts, transferred to the Academy of Art and Design St. Joost, Department of Graphic Design in 2005. Graduated from the Academy in 2007. After internships in design offices in Germany and the Netherlands, began working at mi e ru in 2008. Is also engaged in teaching German, using her feel for the language. In 2009 and 2010, won second and first places at the 19th and 20th translation contests, respectively, sponsored by the Goethe-Institut Tokyo. The book “Between the Lines”, themed on cities, which she produced whilst studying in the Netherlands, has received the top rating.
